• Description: There will be a limited number of grants for support of trainees (graduate students and post-doctoral fellows) to attend the conference. A post-doctoral applicant is eligible for up to five years from the graduation date.
• Funding: Funded by sponsors of the conference.
• Eligibility: Applicants must have submitted an abstract to the 2024 NSS, MIC or RTSD. Based on technical merit, the technical program committees will recommend candidates to the scholarship committee for final selection. Applicants will be notified in early July. Grants will be made according to the following criteria until all available funds are committed:
  1. First priority to students /postdocs who are first authors and will present accepted abstracts
  2. Second priority to students /postdocs who are co-authors or presenters of accepted abstracts
  3. Within any category, funds will be distributed according to the date the letter of recommendation is received

The support for these grants comes from different sources. Some grants may have restrictions, e.g., limited to IEEE members. Grant recipients are expected to write a letter of thanks to the sponsor who provided the funds for their trainee grant.

• Recommendations & basis for judging: Applicants need to have their supervisor/mentor(s) complete online letters of recommendation by June 6. The request for a recommendation is sent directly to the e-mail address for your supervisor/advisor listed in your grant application. • Description: The purpose of the Valentin T. Jordanov Radiation Instrumentation Travel Grant is to promote graduate-level study and research on radiation instrumentation and to promote membership in the IEEE.

• Eligibility: Recipients must be graduate students or individuals who have obtained their highest degree less than five years prior to the start of the NSS/MIC. Preference will be given to applicants in the field of Nuclear Electronics with accepted abstracts for the NSS/MIC. Candidates should show exceptional promise in the field of Radiation Instrumentation.
• Recommendations & basis for judging: Academic Advisors/Supervisors will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation by June 6. Recommendations should address financial need, demonstrated technical merit, career intentions and worthiness of the candidate. The Scholarship Committee may seek additional information to clarify how candidates meet the requirements.

• Support: The two best papers (two awards for each NSS and MIC) will receive cash awards of USD 500 each and a certificate. The two runners-up will receive a certificate.
• Application: All candidates for selection must have identified themselves by checking the eligibility box at the time of abstract submittal.
• Description: For outstanding student oral or poster papers presented at the NSS and MIC. The purpose of these awards is to encourage both outstanding student contributions and greater student participation as principal or sole authors of papers as well as to acknowledge the importance of student contributions to the fields embraced by NPSS.
• Funding: Funded by the NSS MIC Conference budget.
• Eligibility: Any student who is the principal or sole author/researcher and the presenter of either a poster or an oral paper at the NSS or MIC and who has been identified as an eligible student. If there is a tie, preference will be given first to IEEE NPSS members, then to IEEE members, and finally to non-IEEE members.
• Recommendations & basis for judging: The on-site awards committee will rank the papers for technical content and originality first. Other criteria such as graphic display and clarity of data presentation may be considered.
• Note: When possible, awards will be presented at the conference. If this is not possible, the recipients will be notified by mail or e-mail.

• Support: Maximum of USD 750 for each NSS recipient and USD 750 for each MIC recipient, mostly for tuition in NPSS Sponsored Short Courses/Tutorials, but in selected cases, possibly for partial travel or hotel room costs to attend an NSS or MIC Short Course. The grants will be in the form of direct payments by the conference toward Short Course tuition and/or partial hotel room costs. This year, we expect to make a minimum of two NPSS Phelps grants for NSS and two NPSS Phelps grants for MIC.

• Description: To promote continuing education and encourage membership in NPSS.
• Funding: Funded by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society.
• Eligibility: Outstanding NPSS Student Members and unemployed Members of NPSS who need assistance in changing career direction.
• Recommendations basis for judging: Grants will be made according to the following criteria: Exceptional promise as a Graduate Student in any of the fields of NSS or MIC, or Exceptionally good work in those fields for currently unemployed NPSS members, with the expectation that attendance to one or more of the Short Courses will result in improved possibility of obtaining a job in one of the NSS or MIC fields. The selection committee (consisting of the Program and Short Course chairs or their designees) will recommend candidates to the General Chair for final selection.

• Eligibility: Nominees will be judged by the RISC Awards Committee according to their contributions to the fields of radiation instrumentation and measurement techniques for ionizing radiation as demonstrated by the technical merit and creativity of their research. Priority will be given to nominees whose research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, especially if the nominee is first author.

• Description: This award (renamed in 2024) is given to an individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of medical imaging science.
• Funding: Funded by an endowment fund that is administered by IEEE Foundation.
• Eligibility: At least eight years and no more than 25 years of professional experience and contributions in the field of medical imaging science after obtaining the highest degree, at the time of nomination.  The award is open to all active members of the medical imaging community.
• Recommendations & basis for judging: The committee will use a nomination package as the basis for evaluating the significance and degree of innovation. The principal criteria will be the contribution to the field and the impact on the state-of-the-art. Other factors are cumulative research contributions over the first part of the career, internationally recognized leadership, and mentorship.  Membership in the IEEE and NPS Society can be used as a factor in the case that the award committee has candidates that they deem qualified.

• Recommendations & basis for judging: In selecting the recipient of this award, primary consideration will be given to the impact and innovativeness of a nominee’s research in the field of medical imaging science. Other factors include a nominee’s research contributions over a career and his/her influence on medical imaging science through education. The nominee is not required to be a member of the NPSS or IEEE but, where candidates have otherwise equal qualifications, preference shall be given to the candidate who is a member of the IEEE.
• Award presentation: The prize will be awarded at the IEEE NPSS Medical Imaging Conference.

• Description: The IEEE WIE Family Cares Grant Program was established to promote and enable attendance at IEEE conferences, especially by persons whose financial obligations to care for family members may prevent their attendance, by covering the cost of their family care responsibilities (children, seniors, disabled) up to $1,000 USD.
• Support: The grant shall be a maximum of $1,000 USD per grant recipient. Grants less than $1,000 USD may be awarded depending on the applicant’s estimated or actual expenses.

• Documents required : Submission of a narrative proposal from the applicant summarizing their need and describing their financial responsibilities which can also include supplemental letters, at their own discretion, from a person of authority indicating that the applicant has the need to care for a family member who cannot be left unattended, and in the absence of the applicant, an alternative support is essential. One letter of recommendation from a Section Chair, Affinity Group Chair, colleague, or IEEE member who can attest to their needs and narrative of the applicant. If available, a letter confirming paper acceptance at the conference.
• Funding: Funded by IEEE and administered by IEEE Women In Engineering.
• Eligibility: This grant will be available to all IEEE members of any grade, of any gender, based on need and the desire to attend an IEEE conference and have competing family care responsibilities. These responsibilities can include but are not limited to, childcare, sick care, and elderly care. Applicants can apply each year, however, applicants who have not previously received the IEEE WIE Family Cares Grant will be given priority and a recipient may only receive this grant once every three years.

• Description: The IEEE WIE Travel Grant program provides grants for IEEE WIE members to attend and present at IEEE-sponsored conferences or IEEE WIE-sponsored events.
  • Support: Applicant’s will receive their grant in the form of a reimbursement after the event indicated in the application is attended in person and after the following items are submitted within 30 days after the event:
    • Completed post-event report including photos
    • Completed expense report including receipts

  • Documents required : A 300 word narrative proposal describing the applicant’s reason for applying and financial need, letter indicating the applicant’s paper has been accepted, and a recommendation letter from a supervising faculty member (for students).
  • Funding: Funded by IEEE Women In Engineering.
  • Eligibility: An applicant can receive a travel grant only once every 12 months and only one author per paper for the conference will be awarded a travel grant.
  • Membership requirements: Yes, must be an IEEE WIE member and in their second year of continuous WIE membership.

• Application Deadline: October 15
• Description: NPSS is offering a grant to reimburse of up to USD 1000 per family in order to assist conference attendees who incur additional family care related expenses (child, senior, etc.) to attend the conference.
• Support: Maximum of US$ 1000 for each NSS recipient and US$ 1000 for each MIC recipient. The grants will be in the form of reimbursement for allowable expenses. This year we expect to make up to two NPSS Cares Grants each for NSS and MIC.

• Funding: Funded by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society.
• Eligibility:
  • Cover family Care expenses for an attendee who has already registered for the conference
  • To cover additional expenses (above their normal care-related expenses) while registered attendee attends the conference
• Successful applicants will be notified around 21st October 2024
• Membership requirements: IEEE / NPSS membership preferred, but not mandatory
• After the conference, grant recipients will need to provide a brief description of how the recipient benefitted from this grant.

To receive reimbursement, expenses need to be documented by receipts. Please contact the Conference Scholarship Chairs and the Conference Treasurer before and while at the conference to check about the most efficient mechanism for reimbursement.
