Tampa Convention Center Returning to Normal Operations after Hurricane Milton
Tampa Convention Center did not sustain significant damage from Hurricane Milton. We are fortunate to be spared from any major impacts of this storm.
We are starting to return to normal operations on Friday, October 11. Our Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering team, alongside our service partner General Facility Care, are currently cleaning our property and moving equipment back. Our center will be fully open and ready to welcome events the week of October 14.
We want to thank all our team members for working diligently to prepare our facility ahead of the storm and for cleaning up afterward. Our hearts go out to community members impacted by this storm, and we are supporting the City of Tampa in recovery efforts.

Dear Colleagues,
For the sixth time, our conference returns to sunny Florida, but this time, with a change in scenery. Orlando has been a frequent stop for us, but this time we are moving Westward towards the coast. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the 2024 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium, Medical Imaging Conference, and Room-Temperature Semiconductor Detectors Symposium that will be held in Tampa, Florida from October 26th to November 2nd, 2024.
The city of Tampa is a beautiful vibrant town located in the heart of Florida’s Gulf Coast. It offers many cultural and culinary opportunities right on the waters of the Tampa Bay. Just across the Bay, on the facing peninsula, ocean beaches abound for your enjoyment. An historical trolly offers easy transportation to the older districts for a satisfying culinary experience. Two airports, one near downtown, the other In Clearwater/St. Petersburg offer affordable air transportation options. Entertainment and Events scheduled all-year around make sure that your downtime can be filled with new things to see and to experience.
The Tampa Convention Center is located directly on the bay and surrounded by restaurants and hotels. It offers the ideal setting to touch bases with colleagues and make new connections. This will be facilitated also by our social events, some held at the convention center, some held in other beautiful locations around town, such as the Florida Aquarium or directly on a yacht. Water taxis are always available to facilitate your own excursions.
While our Southern US location may have changed, what will not change is the quality of our program. During our preparations, we will preserve and enhance those characteristics that have made our conference the best event in our fields. Our technical chairs, together with topic conveners selected among experts in our own community, and our pool of incredibly skilled reviewers, will ensure that the final program will adhere to our society’s highest scientific standards.
The technical program will be complemented by an array of short courses, meant to enhance the skillset of our early-career colleagues and students, but also as good refreshers for more seasoned professionals. Additional enhancement opportunities come also from planned workshops and special events, such as Women In Engineering (WIE), Young Professionals, and plenary talks in the main program.
This year, our venue offers a large, centrally located space for industrial exhibits. We anticipate the availability of about 70 exhibitors’ booths, thus, there will be plenty of opportunities to visit and to interact with our favorite companies. To facilitate that, a vendor’s reception is planned. Vendors will also offer interesting presentations during the main events, so make sure to not miss them!
Importantly, the abstract deadline is May 7.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to this beautiful city in 2024.
Lorenzo Fabris, General Chair on behalf of the 2024 NSS MIC RTSD organizing committee.
